THIS WEEK'S FOODIE ADVENTURE REGION:

CENTRAL THAILAND

Central Thailand’s cuisine is renowned for its balanced flavours and harmonious blend of sweet, sour, salty and spicy tastes. The region’s fertile plains provide an abundance of fresh ingredients, which are masterfully combined to create complex dishes. Staples include rich curries, hearty soups, and fragrant stir-fries, often accompanied by steamed jasmine rice. The cuisine reflects the cultural diversity and culinary traditions of the heart of Thailand.

Gai Satay – Char-Grilled Chicken Skewers

Char-grilled chicken skewers served with coconut cream and peanut satay sauce, cucumber relish, and roti bread. This dish is a delightful mix of savory and sweet flavours.

 

Mee Krob Chow Wan – Sweet and Sour Crispy Noodles

Sweet and sour crispy noodles with tofu, beanshoots, chives, tamarind, Thai basil, and crispy shallots. This dish is a perfect balance of textures and flavours.  V

 

Haw Mok – Steamed Red Prawn Curry

Steamed red prawn curry with wombok, wild ginger, egg, Thai basil, chilli, and shallots. This dish is fragrant and rich in flavour. GF

SOUTHERN THAILAND

Southern Thailand’s cuisine is celebrated for its bold and vibrant flavours, heavily influenced by Malay, Indonesian, and Indian culinary traditions. Known for its use of fresh seafood, aromatic spices, and rich coconut milk, Southern Thai cuisine offers a delightful mix of spicy, sour, and tangy tastes. Staples include spicy curries, tangy salads, and fragrant rice dishes, often accompanied by an array of fresh herbs and vegetables.

The cuisine is deeply rooted in traditional recipes passed down through generations, offering a truly authentic and flavourful dining experience.

Nam Prik Ong – Slow Braised Spicy Chicken and Tomato

This traditional Northern Thai dish combines slow-braised spicy chicken and tomato with sticky rice, shallot, coriander, cucumber, snake bean, and crispy pork crackling (cab moo). It is a flavorful and hearty dish. GF, VG, 🐟

 

 

Hed Tod – Golden Fried Mushrooms

Characterised by the use of sticky rice, fermented fish, and an abundance of fresh herbs and chillies, Isaan dishes are known for their intense spiciness, tangy notes, and earthy undertones. The cuisine emphasizes simplicity and authenticity, often featuring grilled meats, papaya salads, and hearty soups, making it a true representation of the region’s rich culinary traditions.
